June 10th 2003: My first single from my new CD has been released now for about three months. It seems like just yesterday that I was standing in the studio in Franklin, TN trying not to cry as I sang the vocals. You see, the song always brings back so many memories for me. When I wrote "I REFUSE TO BE AFRAID" with my friend Marty Funderburk, we were just sitting around my office the week after September 11th 2001, sharing our stories of where we were that morning when the airplanes hit the towers in New York City and crashed into the field in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. As I told Marty about the post-it-note that I had written "I refuse to be afraid" on and had stuck on my kitchen wall, he said that we should write a song about fear to kind of heal our own despair. Weeks later we had a song that we liked but didn't know if it would mean the same to others who heard it. When I hear from others that this song has meant something to them about the fears they face, it makes me glad to be a songwriter.

Fear is a spirit according to the Word and it says that we are not given a spirit of fear by our Lord. I know personally that fear can be very crippling. I also know that it can keep us from running the race that the Lord has given each one of us. We should be like the race horses we see running for the prize. They have blinders on where they can only look ahead. When we're looking side to side it's easy to get distracted from the goal set before us by the Father. When we're looking back, we're just slowing down the process.

I have several songs that will come off this new CD as radio singles. I can only pray that these songs will comfort, praise and remind people of the wonderful love our Father has for us. He has a plan for each of His children. The Bible tells us often of the promises and blessings the Lord has for us. I personally don't want to miss anything He has for me. I don't want you to miss a thing either. So my prayer is that we keep looking straight ahead and stay focused on the goal to win the prize until we're looking into the eyes of our precious Lord Jesus.

(Philippians 3:14)
